Penang: The 19th ASEAN Navy Chiefs' Meeting (ANCM), the Third ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX), and the ASEAN Fleet Review (AFR) have been meticulously planned to strike a balance between diplomacy, military elements, and regional cooperation. Deputy Chairman of the ANCM Working Committee, Rear Admiral Datuk Pahlawan Mohd Fadzli Kamal Mohd Mohaldin, highlighted the Royal Malaysian Navy's (RMN) comprehensive preparations for these events, scheduled from August 15 to 22.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the RMN has collaborated with various government and non-government agencies at both federal and state levels to ensure systematic coordination and implementation of activities. This includes engagement with ASEAN Defence Advisors in Malaysia and the organization of Planning Conferences and ANCM Staff Meetings. The RMN has also partnered with Penang Global Tourism to enhance public awareness and promotion of the events.

Aside from the main events, additional activities will include the Naval Engineering Conference (NEC), the ASEAN Navies' City Parade (ANCP), and public opportunities to visit ASEAN warships. The programme will feature an ASEAN naval contingent parade, maritime asset salutes, an RMN helicopter flypast, and a formation sail-past of ships in the Northern Strait.

He expressed hope that the event's success will elevate Malaysia's standing as a leader in maritime cooperation and set a new benchmark for the RMN in hosting international military events.

The RMN aims to convey its commitment to advancing regional maritime peace and stability through these events. Rear Admiral Mohd Fadzli Kamal also noted that the activities provide a platform for strategic dialogue among ASEAN navy leaders, fostering closer collaboration.

Highlighting the RMN's role, he stated that the navy's participation in various platforms showcases its function as Malaysia's maritime ambassador globally. The RMN remains committed to addressing regional maritime challenges and emphasizes defence diplomacy through strategic initiatives and collaborations.
