Kuala lumpur: ASEAN is firmly preparing for the future, reflecting the regional bloc's commitment to greater inclusivity and long-term resilience, particularly through the ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045. Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan stated that despite the current unpredictable global climate, ASEAN must not be deterred from preparing for the future.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad emphasized that envisioning ASEAN's potential by 2045 requires not only strategic planning but also perseverance in the face of unpredictability. He addressed skepticism about long-term planning amidst global uncertainty, asserting that preparedness is crucial regardless of the challenges.
In his speech at the gala dinner during the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related events at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Mohamad highlighted Timor-Leste's upcoming accession as ASEAN's 11th member. He noted that the expanding membership signifies a broader and more promising outlook for the bloc.
The gala dinner, which commenced at 8 pm, featured performances by Artistana from Istana Budaya, celebrated Malaysian singer Dayang Nurfaizah, a choir, and an orchestral performance. A unique 'durian diplomacy' moment was shared when Malaysia's famously pungent fruit was served, adding a cultural touch to the event. Mohamad humorously remarked about the durian's divisive nature, stating, "Either you like it or you hate it. We are going to have it outside."
