ATM Cyber, Electronic Defence Command To Be Launched In December

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Cyber and Electronic Defence Command is set to officially launch this December, as announced by Deputy Defence Minister B. This initiative marks a significant step in the nation's defence transition towards a smart military, focusing on advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), automated weapon systems, and enhanced cyber warfare capabilities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Defence Minister B elaborated on the importance of the new cyber command during a session in the Dewan Rakyat. He emphasized that this command will act as the central hub for cyber and electromagnetic operations. The future-oriented strategy, dubbed the Future Forces concept, aims to develop doctrines, structures, and high-tech assets adept at functioning in a digital battlespace.

In response to questions from Muhammad Ismi Mat Taib (PN-Parit) about Malaysia's transition to a smart military, Adly confirmed that the development of the Cyber and Electronic Defence Command will proceed in phases under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). This phased approach ensures a structured and sustainable transition towards modern defence capabilities.

Addressing supplementary questions on the reskilling of ATM personnel, Adly highlighted that the ministry is concentrating on eight pivotal areas. These areas encompass the integration of AI in land, sea, and air surveillance, military drone operations, cyber defence, smart weapon systems, and the deployment of unmanned vehicles. AI will also play a crucial role in enhancing communication and intelligence systems, improving training simulators, and optimizing logistics management.
