Kuala lumpur: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil hopes that an investigation into the beating incident involving sports journalist and National Press Club (NPC) deputy president Haresh Deol in Bangsar today can be carried out immediately. Fahmi said the safety of media practitioners, especially when they are carrying out their duties, cannot be compromised under any circumstances.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi mentioned that he was informed about the incident while attending a programme in Kota Kinabalu and subsequently contacted Haresh's brother to gather more details about the attack that took place in the afternoon. Haresh had just finished filing a police report and was in the process of completing a medical report when Fahmi reached out to him.
Earlier, Haresh, who is also the co-founder of news portal TwentyTwo13, shared via a post on the X page that he was attacked by two men while heading to his car. Another individual allegedly recorded the incident using a mobile phone.
Brickfields district police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook stated that the police are currently tracking down three men believed to be involved in the incident. The attack happened on Jalan Maarof near the parking lot of a shopping mall as Haresh was walking on the sidewalk towards Jalan Telawi.
