Auditor General’s Appointment Confirmed, Wan Suraya to Continue Service – AGC

Kuala lumpur: The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC): The AGC clarified today that the appointment of the Auditor General is in accordance with Article 105 of the Federal Constitution and the provisions of subparagraph 1(1) of the First Schedule to the Audit Act 1957 (Act 62), which allows for the Auditor General to be appointed from among members of the public service.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AGC's statement highlighted that following Clause (2) of Article 105 of the Federal Constitution, Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi, upon her appointment as Auditor General effective June 13, 2023, ceased to hold any other position within the Federal service. Consequently, she is no longer part of the Administrative and Diplomatic Officers service scheme.

The AGC emphasized that despite her departure from the Administrative and Diplomatic Officers service scheme, Wan Suraya remains a member of the general public service under Section 3 of Act 62. The statement underscored that her appointment as Auditor General is legitimate, eliminating the necessity for her retirement for national interests.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil supported the AGC's position, affirming that Wan Suraya's role as Auditor General is valid and aligns with the Federal Constitution.
