Aunt Of Kelantan Sultan Passes Away, Heritage Weapons Festival Is Closed Today

Kota bharu: The aunt of the Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Muhammad V, Datuk Tengku Salwani Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra, passed away at 6:10 am this morning, at the age of 82. Confirmation of the death was made through the Sultan of Kelantan's Office in a statement today. "Let us pray together that the deceased's soul may be blessed by Allah SWT and placed with those who believe and do righteous deeds, and receive His forgiveness and blessings," the statement said. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Salwani was born on August 26, 1944, and is the daughter of Sultan Yahya Petra ibni Almarhum Sultan Ibrahim, as well as the elder sister of the late Sultan Ismail Petra. Meanwhile, the Sultan of Kelantan's Media Office announced that the Kelantan Heritage Weapons Festival 2026, which was scheduled to take place from yesterday until September 5 at Istana Balai Besar, has been closed today following the death of a member of the Kelantan royal family. "All festivals and activities are postponed immediately. The co operation of all parties in this matter is greatly appreciated," the statement said. The festival, which features traditional weapons, pitis, and Kelantan heritage treasures, runs from 9 am to 10 pm with free admission. Among the main attractions was a special exhibition of the Kelantan Sultanate Crown, displayed to visitors for the first time, alongside activities such as songket weaving demonstrations, making kelingkam cloth, traditional performances, and a Kelantan Malay Clothing workshop.
