Authors And Publishers Urged To Ensure Accuracy In Islamic Literature: Zulkifli

Kuala lumpur: All authors and publishers of Islamic books have been urged to ensure the accuracy, originality, and authenticity of their content following concerns over negligence in the publication of Islamic materials currently under investigation by the authorities, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan said.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkifli stated that while the government strongly encourages the publication of new works on Islamic subjects, the originality and authenticity of their content must be given due attention. He emphasized the seriousness of the issue, particularly in cases involving negligence by authors whose published works contain errors. Efforts will be strengthened to monitor and examine these matters more thoroughly to determine further measures.

Zulkifli was commenting on claims that a newly published book by a social media influencer contained errors in its quotation of Quranic verses, prompting criticism and calls for its withdrawal from the market. He noted that the author had recently apologized, but stressed that such incidents must not be repeated.

In response, Zulkifli mentioned that the government plans to establish an Islamic book publishing council to bolster Malaysia's Islamic scholarly publishing industry. Announced on June 3, the council aims to unite publishers for collaboration, idea sharing, and driving high-impact Islamic book publishing in the country.
