BAC 2026: Aaron-Wooi Yik, Pearly-Thinaah Advance Into Quarter-Finals

Ningbo: Men's doubles defending champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah successfully advanced into the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) 2026 in Ningbo, China, following hard-fought victories in their respective second-round matches today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron-Wooi Yik managed to edge past the home pair of Hu Ke Yuan-Lin Xiang Yi with a tight scoreline of 22-20, 21-19. This victory marked their first career win over the Chinese duo, achieved at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre. The second-seeded Malaysian pair is set to face South Korea's Kang Min Hyuk-Ki Dong Ju in the quarter-finals, which will be their first-ever meeting.

In women's doubles, Pearly-Thinaah were pushed to the limit before overcoming Taiwan's Hsu Yin Hui-Lin Jhih Yun in a thrilling three-set encounter, finishing 21-19, 19-21, 24-22. The match lasted over an hour and marked their third victory over the Taiwanese pair, having previously defeated them at both the French Open 2025 and the Masters Japan 2025. The Malaysian duo awaits their quarter-final opponents, who will be either Japan's Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara or China's Li Yi Jing-Luo Xu Min.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian pair of Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting faced defeat in their women's doubles second-round match, losing 18-21, 14-21 to world number 7 Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi from Japan.
