BAC 2026: Herry Wants Aaron-Wooi Yik Not To Be Stressed With Defending Title

Ningbo: National men's doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi has reminded the national pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, not to think too much about defending the Badminton Asia (BAC) championship they won last year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Herry suggested that the pair, who are ranked second in the world, take a cautious approach in every match they will face starting from the first round. He emphasized that defending a championship is a challenging task and advised Aaron-Wooi Yik to focus on one game at a time without getting ahead of themselves by thinking about the final.

Herry pointed out that their opponents in the first round are formidable and should not be underestimated. Therefore, he advised the players to concentrate on each match as it comes. His comments came during a training session with the national team at the Badminton Academy Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

The BAC 2026 is set to take place in Ningbo, China, early next month. Aaron and Wooi Yik, who are seeded second, will begin the tournament against the Taiwanese duo of Chiu Hsiang Chieh and Wang Chi Lin.

Herry also mentioned his plan to use video analysis to aid the national pair in minimizing errors during the tournament. He believes that visual learning through video recordings can have a more significant impact compared to verbal instructions alone.

"Usually, before a tournament, we evaluate players through video recordings of their previous actions. If we just talk to the players, their ears will listen, but if it's video, their eyes will also focus," he explained.
