Bagan Datuk Polytechnic Proclaimed As Sultan Nazrin Shah Maritime Polytechnic

Bagan datuk: The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, has officially proclaimed the Bagan Datuk Polytechnic as the Sultan Nazrin Shah Maritime Polytechnic. The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim, Raja Muda Perak Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, and Raja Di Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzurkarnain Sultan Idris Shah. Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir highlighted in his address that the polytechnic, which is the 35th in the country, was established in December 2016. It was created with the vision of generating skilled talent in the fields of maritime engineering and technology. The institution had its first intake in 2017, offering a Diploma in Naval Architecture, making it the sole TVET polytechnic in Malaysia dedicated to maritime and shipping disciplines.

The polytechnic currently occupies 12.14 hectares and was developed at a cost of RM175 million, with the construction fully completed in 2023. Zambry emphasized that the institution is a center of knowledge that underscores the government's dedication to bolstering the nation's maritime TVET sector. Its establishment aligns with Malaysia's MADANI aspirations and the national Blue Economy agenda, which aim to promote ocean sustainability and advance future maritime technologies.

During the event, Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara toured an exhibition that highlighted the polytechnic's history and its accomplishments over the years.
