Bailey Bridge Installation Planned for Gua Musang-Kota Bharu Road Following Sinkhole Incident

Gua Musang:The Public Works Department (JKR) has announced plans to install a Bailey bridge on Federal Route FT08 along the Gua Musang-Kota Bharu road near Kesedar Ethnobotanical Park. This decision follows the closure of the road due to a sinkhole incident.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the installation work is scheduled to begin on October 14 and is expected to be completed within a week, contingent on soil stability and site safety. The affected area, from Section 205.556 to Section 205.564, has been closed to all vehicles and will remain so until further notice to ensure the safety of road users.

Motorists traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu via Gua Musang and vice versa are advised to use the alternative route via FT2747, Jalan Pulai-Bandar Baru Gua Musang, and to adhere to safety instructions and road signs. JKR emphasized that they will closely monitor the site conditions and prioritize the safety of road users throughout the construction process.

Kelantan JKR director, Ir. Nik Badlihisham Nik Ismail, stated that the bridge installation team will visit the site to conduct necessary checks. Meanwhile, Gua Musang district officer Datuk Mohd Roshdi Ismail mentioned that temporary mitigation measures will be implemented to reduce safety risks until the repair works are completed.

Galas assemblyman Datuk Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim highlighted that recent heavy rainfall could lead to more sinkholes if the soil beneath FT08 is not promptly reinforced. He stressed the importance of technical inspections to determine the cause and ensure the safety of nearby roads, noting the route's significance for local residents, including schoolchildren.

The issue of water overflow and flash floods affecting the main route from Taman Kesedar Putra to Taman Damar and Taman Kesedar Jaya also requires immediate attention. This matter was discussed at the Gua Musang District Development Action Committee Meeting on September 23, urging technical agencies to take action.

The road was closed yesterday after a sinkhole, approximately eight meters deep, appeared, prompting urgent safety measures.
