Bailey Bridge to Restore Connectivity After Sungai Liat Collapse

Perak: A Bailey bridge will be constructed as a temporary replacement for the Sungai Liat bridge that collapsed yesterday morning, reconnecting Felda Residence Hot Spring, Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tisong, and Buyong Mas Sanctuary Campsite near Sungkai.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin announced that the construction, costing about RM1 million, will start today and is expected to be completed by April 29. The bridge will serve as a one-way route for all ordinary vehicles, including lorries carrying oil palm loads, ensuring that traffic around the affected area remains functional.

He stated during a media conference at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building that no unexpected incidents have occurred in the area apart from the relocation of 536 Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tisong residents to the Sungkai Orang Asli Transit Point. Meanwhile, 95 visitors at Felda Residence Hotspring remain stranded but are reportedly well, with their needs being met by the staff at Felda Residence Hotspring.

Regarding the cause of the collapse, signs of erosion were identified as impacting the bridge structure. For a long-term solution, the authorities plan to upgrade the bridge to a single span design to facilitate a smoother flow of water.
