Kuala lumpur: The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) today announced the appointment of Chang Kim Wai as the men's doubles assistant coach starting November 4. The 49-year-old will collaborate with men's doubles head coach, Herry Iman Pierngadi, and Miftakh to bolster the department.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kim Wai's role will involve assisting in the planning and execution of high-performance training programs, concentrating on enhancing tactical awareness, partnership chemistry, and consistency among Malaysia's leading and emerging men's doubles pairs. Kim Wai's past achievements include being a Commonwealth and Asian Games silver medallist in 2002 and a member of Malaysia's 2002 Thomas Cup squad, which also secured a silver medal.
BAM's doubles director, Rexy Mainaky, expressed satisfaction with Kim Wai's inclusion in the coaching team. He noted that Kim Wai's proven track record and deep understanding of doubles play make him a valuable addition to the setup under Coach Herry. Mainaky believes that this combination will help Malaysian pairs reach greater heights.
In response, Kim Wai conveyed his gratitude and excitement about the opportunity. He remarked, "It's an honour to serve Malaysian badminton once again. I look forward to working closely with Coach Herry, Coach Miftakh, and our players to achieve greater success for the country."
