Port dickson: A Bangladeshi man was charged at the Magistrate's Court here today with three counts of murdering three fellow nationals in Linggi, Port Dickson on August 3.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, no plea was recorded from Md Idris Ali, 43, after the charges were read separately before Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli. This is due to the fact that murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court. Md Idris is accused of murdering a 44-year-old man in an alley behind a house in Taman Linggi, as well as two men aged 40 and 52 at an oil palm plantation in Sua Manggis, Linggi, between 3.30 and 4.15 pm on August 3.

The charges are framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which stipulates the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years. If not sentenced to death, the accused faces a maximum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The prosecution was led by Negeri Sembilan State Prosecution Director Engku Ahmad Rashdi Engku Abdillah, while the accused was not represented by any legal counsel. Additionally, Md Idris was charged at the Sessions Court before Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar with attempting to murder and causing injury to another 20-year-old Bangladeshi man inside a house in Taman Linggi between 4 and 4.15 pm on the same date.

This charge is framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction. Earlier, Engku Ahmad Rashdi stated that no bail was offered to the man, who has been in Malaysia for nine years. The accused claimed that he did not understand the charges, and the case is set for mention tomorrow for an interpreter to read out all the charges again.
