Penang: The Penang City Council (MBPP) has mandated the closure of a food court complex in the Barat Daya district for 14 days following the discovery of a cockroach infestation in its kitchen and food preparation areas.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MBPP conducted an operation to assess the cleanliness of food premises and found that the hygiene level of this specific complex was subpar, failing to meet established standards.
The council's statement indicated that the food court complex must cease operations for 14 days, effective immediately, until June 8. This order is in accordance with By-Law 38 (1) of the By-Laws (Food Establishments) MPPP 1991.
During the operation, MBPP focused on several aspects, including the validity of the business licence, the cleanliness of the premises, and the compliance of food operators with set regulations.
MBPP reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the cleanliness of food establishments to ensure that the food provided to customers meets hygienic standards.
