Bernama Organises AI Training For Media Practitioners In S’wak

Kuching: The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) has commenced a two-day training programme titled "AI For Journalism: Transcription and Smart Tools" at the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS). This initiative is aimed at equipping 30 media practitioners from various agencies in Sarawak with the skills to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology effectively in their work.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme's instructor, Muhammad Hafiz Abdul Majid, highlighted that one of the primary goals of the training is to accelerate both the transcription process and fact-checking through the use of AI technology. He explained that journalists often need to transcribe audio or video from speeches and press conferences and verify the accuracy of certain facts. The training is set to demonstrate how AI can streamline these tasks, reducing transcription time from an hour to just five or ten minutes.

Muhammad Hafiz further emphasized the importance of training media personnel to stay competitive amidst the fast-paced technological advancements. He addressed concerns about AI replacing human jobs, asserting that AI, if utilized properly, can enhance human capabilities and boost productivity. The Bernama Centre of Excellence is facilitating this AI-focused course as part of the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2025 initiative.

Following the session in Sarawak, a similar training programme is scheduled to take place in Sabah on May 6 and 7.
