Bernama presents death benefits to family of Late Muharyani

PETALING JAYA, March 2 (Bernama) — The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) today presented a death benefit payment to the family of English sub-editor Muharyani Othman, 68, who died of cancer yesterday.

The aid was presented by Bernama chief executive officer Roslan Ariffin to Muharyani’s sister, Nor Azizan, 71, at her residence in Subang Jaya.

Roslan said he hoped that the assistance of RM4,000 will help reduce the burden borne by the deceased’s family and, at the same time, serve as a token of appreciation for Muharyani’s contributions and services to Bernama.

“She really was a tough cookie, even though she had to undergo cancer treatment and chemotherapy for eight to nine years, she still performed her duties as usual.

“Muharyani was very good at her job, and we consider her as a teacher to most Bernama journalists today,” he said after presenting the aid to Nor Azizan, with Bernama Human Resources manager Marzukhi Md Saleh also present.

Roslan also described Muharyani’s passing as a huge loss to the organisation.

Muharyani died at about 2 am yesterday at the National Cancer Institute, Putrajaya, after being admitted to the institute on Sunday.

She joined the Bernama Domestic News Service English Desk as a sub-editor on March 1, 2007, on a contract basis.
