BI to deploy 147 newly hired personnel at NAIA

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is augmenting manpower at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) by deploying 147 newly hired Immigration Officers (IOs) starting next week. According to Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the new officers will have on-site training beginning April 24, as added workforce at the height of the travel season this summer. ‘This action will help improve our service to the travelling public during this time, as well as ensure that immigration protocols are carried out properly against trafficking threats,’ he said in a statement. Upon completion of the two-week training, the officers will be assigned to different airports and offices of the bureau nationwide. ‘This is part of our continuing goal of improving our manpower by maximizing our plantilla,’ the BI chief added. Also, the new immigration personnel will undergo continuing trainings to improve both hard skills and soft skills. ‘We want a more holistic approach in our trainings for our officers,’ Tansingco said. ‘Apart from theoretical trainings, we want to increase our trainings in other skills, like communication and conflict resolution, which are very important in the conduct of their duties,’ he added. There are around 800 employees assigned at the airport.
