Semporna: The installation of advanced Big Eyes security systems on Pulau Ligitan, along with solar hybrid projects on Pulau Pom Pom and Pulau Boheyan in Semporna, has significantly bolstered security surveillance in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone), with a total investment of RM4.24 million.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) Commander Datuk Victor Sanjos detailed that the Big Eyes project, completed on November 28, is equipped with radar and cameras for enhanced surveillance. The solar hybrid projects provide a more stable electricity supply to the area. Both projects are under the Home Ministry (KDN) through ESSCOM, with the Big Eyes project valued at RM3.94 million and the Solar Hybrid Project at RM299,795.78. These initiatives support the coordination of Operation SANGGAH via the ESSCOM Fusion Centre (EFC).
"The Big Eyes project optimizes maritime surveillance on critical routes without relying on human resources, thereby increasing the rapid response capability of security forces against threats and cross-border criminal activities," Sanjos said. He made these remarks following the project handover.
Victor highlighted that the project handover aligns with the Second Phase of ESSCOM's planning to fortify the zone's security strategy. He emphasized the MADANI Government's commitment to enhancing national security assets and increasing the tactical capabilities of security forces to preserve the country's sovereignty and security.
"ESSCOM, in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), and other enforcement agencies, remains dedicated to ensuring security, sovereignty, and public order in East Sabah," he added.
Additionally, the government plans to establish a temporary security control post on Pulau Ligitan, led by MAF, to further reinforce its strategic security and sovereignty stance.
