Bioeconomy Corp and South Korea’s K-Eco Partner to Enhance Biogas Development

Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corp) and South Korea's Korea Environment Corporation (K-Eco) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in biogas development and carbon neutrality initiatives. The agreement was finalized during the Biogas Towards Carbon Neutrality Workshop, organized by K-Eco in collaboration with the South Korean embassy in Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoU establishes a framework for cooperation in the biogas sector, which includes knowledge sharing, technical collaboration, policy exchange, capacity building, project development, and innovation. The partnership aims to promote sustainable bioenergy solutions, with the workshop being officiated by Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang.

Bioeconomy Corp's chief executive officer, Mohd Khairul Fidzal Abdul Razak, emphasized the global interest in sustainable bioenergy and circular economy solutions. He noted the vast amounts of organic waste generated worldwide, highlighting the potential for Malaysia and South Korea to transform waste into value through knowledge exchange and expertise sharing.

K-Eco director general Seo Seung-Myeong pointed out South Korea's experience with environmental policies and greenhouse gas reduction programs. He expressed hope that the MoU and workshop would expand practical cooperation in biogas development and contribute to carbon neutrality and environmental sustainability in both countries.

South Korean Ambassador to Malaysia Yeo Seung-bae underscored the importance of international cooperation in tackling climate change. He praised the partnership with Malaysia, expressing satisfaction at the collaboration among government agencies, industry leaders, and experts from both nations.

Bioeconomy Corp, under MOSTI, is tasked with developing Malaysia's bio-based and biotechnology industries. The corporation supports businesses, academic institutions, and the scientific community, providing facilitation services that cover business development, investment, research and development, commercialisation, talent development, and regulatory matters. Its flagship programs include BioNexus Status and the Bio-based Accelerator programme, both aimed at fostering growth and innovation in the biotechnology sector.
