Kuala lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) has successfully collected and donated 4,318 books of various genres to inmates at Kajang Prison to promote a reading culture among them.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, WTCKL stated that the contribution under its 'Book Donation Drive' campaign comprised public donations of religious books, novels, biographies, comics, reference books, recipe books, and other reading materials. To ensure the reading materials are organised and utilised more effectively, WTCKL also donated three bookshelves.

"The initiative aims to provide inmates with the opportunity to gain knowledge and build a better future through reading," the statement said. The campaign was held in conjunction with the 2026 Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL), which took place at WTCKL from May 29 to June 7, with three book collection points set up around the venue throughout the event.

Meanwhile, WTCKL also expressed its appreciation to the PBAKL organisers for supporting the campaign through promotional efforts and social media posts on their official platforms, which helped raise public awareness of the initiative. "The encouraging response received reflects Malaysians' enduring spirit of sharing knowledge and giving back to the community," WTCKL said.

WTCKL Group Managing Director Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim stated that the organisation believed everyone deserved an opportunity to improve themselves and build a better future. "Through the Book Donation Drive, we hope to contribute meaningful reading materials to help Kajang Prison inmates gain knowledge and broaden their horizons. We hope this initiative will inspire more people to contribute and extend their support to them," he said.
