Budget 2026 to Prioritize Tourism Enhancement in Federal Territories for Visit Malaysia Year 2026

Kuala lumpur: The upcoming Budget 2026 will focus on enhancing the tourism sector in the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Labuan to support Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, highlighted the key areas of focus during an engagement session with the Ministry of Finance (MoF), where her ministry outlined its priorities and aspirations for the forthcoming year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha emphasized the importance of local authorities in the Federal Territories, particularly in Labuan, for tourism promotion. She stated, "Apart from that, we are gearing up for VMY2026. There are many programmes planned, including initiatives to beautify Kuala Lumpur further, to ensure we present the best possible image of our capital city." Her comments came after the FT Run Putrajaya 2025 event.

Dr Zaliha expressed hope that the Ministry of Finance would support the Federal Territories Department's efforts to enhance Kuala Lumpur's appeal in conjunction with VMY2026. The goal is to attract more domestic and foreign tourists. Budget 2026 is set to be presented in the Dewan Rakyat on October 10. It is the fourth series of MADANI Budgets, aimed at strengthening fiscal resilience, reinforcing economic fundamentals, and improving the people's standard of living.

The budget will continue to focus on the three pillars of the MADANI Economy: raising the ceiling of national growth, improving the floor of living standards, and driving reforms, particularly in governance. In relation to the FT Run Putrajaya, organized by the Federal Territories Sports Council (MSWP) and the Federal Territories Youth and Sports Department, Dr Zaliha noted the event attracted nearly 2,000 participants. She mentioned that the programme aims to promote an active and healthy lifestyle, aligning with the 'Bandar CHASE' vision, especially its 'Healthy City' component, which has received positive feedback from Putrajaya residents.

The Bandar CHASE vision aims to transform the Federal Territories into Clean, Healthy, Advanced, Safe, and Eco-Friendly cities.
