Kuala lumpur: Budget 2027 must focus on ensuring that the benefits of the nation's economic growth are felt more comprehensively across all segments of society, particularly by those who have yet to experience the impact of such growth. Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, said although the country's current macroeconomic performance is strong, economic growth must translate into an improved standard of living for the people.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tengku Zafrul emphasized the need for equitable growth, stating that, "The growth must be equitable. For those who have not yet experienced it, God willing, we can address this issue through the Budget," during his remarks after officiating the Pandan Community Hub. He mentioned discussions with the Ministry of Finance and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to pinpoint areas requiring attention in the upcoming Budget 2027.
He acknowledged that while existing government economic initiatives are yielding positive results, there remains room for improvement through public engagement, particularly with small business owners and industry players. Budget 2027 is slated to be presented by the Prime Minister in Parliament on October 9.
In another development, Tengku Zafrul, also the chairman of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), addressed Malaysia's role in BRICS as a partner country. He clarified that this partnership does not bind Malaysia to any specific geopolitical bloc, aligning with the MADANI Foreign Policy which promotes active and pragmatic diplomacy.
Tengku Zafrul remarked, "We are participating as a partner country this time, not yet as a full member, so there is no issue of being tied to a bloc," in reference to Anwar's visit to India for the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit. He underscored the importance of viewing BRICS as an economic opportunity, particularly in terms of cooperation in trade, investment, energy, and technology.
He concluded by noting Malaysia's long-standing approach to foreign policy, emphasizing cooperation with all parties and avoiding dependence on a single geopolitical framework.
