Budget 2027: KBS To Focus On Grassroots Sports Development, Athlete Welfare

Kuala lumpur: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has submitted an initial framework of its Budget 2027 proposals to the Finance Ministry (MOF) for consideration, with grassroots sports development, youth participation, and athletes' welfare among the ministry's priorities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the framework was prepared based on input gathered through the MADANI Youth Budget Tour being conducted in six zones nationwide. Although all the tour sessions have not been completed, KBS has obtained various views from youth organisations, sports associations as well as unorganised youths for review and assessment. So far, initial discussions have been held with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, and the initial framework has been submitted for MOF's assessment.

The ministry aims to create more opportunities for public participation in sports activities, particularly at the grassroots level, to produce more reserve athletes. The focus will also be on athletes' welfare, including those who have retired or previously contributed to the country. Dr Mohammed Taufiq highlighted that the ministry values input from sports associations and youth organisations, considering the needs of youths in rural areas and those who have not previously participated in ministry organisations or programmes.

Additionally, Dr Mohammed Taufiq shared plans to conduct various nationwide tour programmes in 2027 to engage with as many youths as possible. The tours will include large-scale activities as well as smaller community-level programmes to reach young people throughout Malaysia.
