Kuching: Allocations to expand fertility programmes under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) will be a key focus of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) in Budget 2027. Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri highlighted the importance of this initiative in addressing the country's declining birth rate, with particular attention to states such as Sarawak and Penang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister Nancy Shukri emphasized that while fertility is a significant issue, economic pressures also play a role. However, she assured that the government would tackle economic concerns through other ministries. The KPWKM's focus remains on encouraging people to have children through dedicated programmes to boost the national birth rate.

Minister Nancy made these comments after the launch of the PERANTIS-PENDAYA 2.0 programme, which aims to empower Dayak women entrepreneurs. She also noted that the national fertility rate study's findings would be presented at the opening of LPPKN's new building in Kuching.

Regarding the PERANTIS programme, it was revealed that 400 participants joined this year in Sarawak, with 11 individuals selected as apprentices for further mentoring. The programme, in collaboration with the Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and the Women Empowerment and Sustainability Networking Association (WESNA) Kuching, is designed to empower Dayak women entrepreneurs through a 90-day action plan and enhanced modern business strategies.
