BUDI95 Sees Nearly Three Million Users, Sales Exceed RM91 Million In Four Days – Amir Hamzah

Kuala lumpur: The BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) targeted subsidy initiative has recorded nearly three million users with sales exceeding RM91 million over the first four days, says Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He reported that by 6 pm today, approximately two million users had taken advantage of the subsidised RON95 petrol price of RM1.99 per litre, following the initiative's full rollout to all eligible Malaysians at midnight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamzah noted smooth operations with minimal complaints. He observed that vehicle traffic was heavier than usual as many were eager to benefit from the reduced fuel price. He shared these insights with reporters during a visit to the Petronas Sri Hartamas station to monitor the BUDI95 implementation.

The government is also in discussions with the Sabah and Sarawak state governments to extend BUDI95 benefits to boat owners. Feedback indicated that those with outboard engine boats are currently ineligible for the subsidy. Amir stated that in principle, an agreement to extend eligibility has been reached, with criteria to be established. Discussions aim to incorporate boat owner data into the system to qualify them for the subsidy.

Amir further explained that individuals with driving licences expired for less than three years are allowed to receive BUDI95. However, they are encouraged to renew their licences to ensure they hold a valid one while driving.

BUDI95 was introduced in phases starting September 27, initially targeting 300,000 Malaysian Armed Forces and Royal Malaysia Police personnel. It was later expanded to over five million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients in the B40 category. A total of 16 million Malaysians aged 16 and above with a MyKad and a valid driving licence are eligible for the subsidised RON95 petrol price of RM1.99 per litre, with each individual entitled to up to 300 litres per month.

The Finance Ministry (MOF) had previously announced the unsubsidised retail price of RON95 petrol as RM2.60 per litre for the period from September 30 to October 8.
