Kuala lumpur: The Cabinet has approved the formation of a special committee to oversee the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs) at both federal and state levels, announced Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, will chair the committee and urged all Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize this initiative.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah emphasized collaboration among MPs, non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academia, and the private sector to advance the SDG implementation and support the populace. He made these remarks during the launch of the 2024 Annual Report of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia-SDG (APPGM-SDG) at the Parliament building.
As of 2024, 115 parliamentary constituencies across the nation have engaged in issue mapping, action plan formulation, and the execution of community-based projects aligned with the SDGs. This initiative facilitates a broader and more systematic adoption of the SDGs at the grassroots level. Fadillah also lauded the APPGM-SDG's plan to create zonal and regional SDG Community Centres, designed to promote resource sharing, cross-parliamentary collaboration, and collective resilience building.
Fadillah noted that this regional strategy is in line with the government's policy to enhance local capacity and expedite policy execution at district and state levels. As the Decade of Action for the SDGs advances, he highlighted that the APPGM-SDG report is a crucial resource for policymakers, local leaders, and the public. The report highlights achievements and identifies gaps that need to be addressed.
Fadillah concluded that the 2024 APPGM-SDG Annual Report is not merely a document but serves as a roadmap and reflection of the collective ambition to establish a just, inclusive, and sustainable Malaysia by 2030 and beyond.
