Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi assured that the recent appointment of Hannah Yeoh as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), along with Datuk Lo Su Fui as her deputy, will not compromise the Malay agenda in the Federal Territories.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim considered multiple factors before selecting Hannah and Lo for these roles. He emphasized that all significant decisions were presented to the Cabinet, where discussions were held according to various provisions to ensure the interests of all stakeholders were protected. He reiterated that the issue at hand is not racial, as the MADANI Government emphasizes inclusivity in executing national agendas, particularly within the Federal Territories.
Ahmad Zahid, who also serves as the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, highlighted Hannah's tenure as Youth and Sports Minister, noting that her record showed no racial bias. He further explained that the appointments of Hannah and Lo, who is affiliated with the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, were made while considering the unique status of the Federal Territories, which include Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya.
Additionally, Ahmad Zahid reassured that the leadership within the Federal Territories remains stable. He noted that the Kuala Lumpur mayor is a Malay and that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall continues to be the primary executing agency in the region. He pledged that the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers, himself included, will persist in overseeing developments to ensure the national agenda remains a priority.
The Cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday resulted in Hannah transitioning from her role as Minister of Youth and Sports to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), with Lo, a newcomer to the federal administration, being appointed as her deputy.
