Cabinet to Address Jho Low’s Alleged US Pardon Request Next Week

Kuala lumpur: The Cabinet is set to discuss reports of fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho's alleged bid for a pardon from United States authorities during its upcoming meeting next week. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil revealed that the issue arose during today's Cabinet meeting but was not formally addressed.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesperson, responded to inquiries about reports suggesting that Low, commonly known as Jho Low, had allegedly requested a pardon from former US President Donald Trump. Fahmi was asked whether the Malaysian government intended to formally oppose such a move with US authorities.

Fahmi clarified that the Malaysian government had not received any formal communication from US authorities regarding the alleged pardon request, as the matter was not discussed in today's Cabinet meeting. He advised media representatives to direct their inquiries to either the Home Minister or the Foreign Minister for further details.

International media outlets have reported that Jho Low, a fugitive Malaysian financier accused by US authorities of orchestrating one of the largest financial frauds in history, sought a pardon from Trump. Low, who was charged in 2018 but has managed to evade capture, reportedly submitted a pardon application to the US Justice Department this year. The US Department of Justice's website indicates that the request, listed under 'Taek Jho Low', seeks a 'Pardon after Completion of Sentence', and its status remains 'pending'.
