Cabinet to Decide on Student Discipline and Safety Issues Amid Rising Concerns

Kuala lumpur: The government is set to make a crucial decision on matters of discipline and safety involving school students following recent reports of inappropriate incidents. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that a detailed discussion will take place in the Cabinet tomorrow, having already held a brief meeting with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on the matter.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar shared these updates with reporters after his participation in the opening ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The Prime Minister emphasized the urgency of addressing disciplinary and safety issues in schools, pointing to several reports of rapes, murders, and bullying incidents that require immediate intervention.

Anwar highlighted a recent murder case at a school in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, as well as reported rape cases involving students in Melaka and Kedah as examples of the serious nature of these issues. The rise in bullying cases has also been alarming, with the Education Ministry's data revealing 7,681 recorded cases last year, compared to 6,528 cases in 2023.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to taking stern action to ensure the safety and well-being of students, indicating that the Cabinet will thoroughly address these pressing concerns in their upcoming meeting.
