Cebu City cemeteries impose ‘no alcoholic drinks, no sound’ rule

Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia on Friday said part of the local police job during the observance of Undas on Nov. 1 and 2 is to strictly implement the ‘no alcoholic beverages and no sound systems policy.’

The mayor said prohibiting intoxicating drinks and sound systems would ensure a peaceful and orderly observance of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days.

Garcia said the city police will deploy 2,000 officers to cemeteries.

‘We praised the local police for finalizing their security plan for the two-day observance,’ he said.

The city government would also tap village peace officers or watchers (tanod) and staff of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Bureau of Fire Protection and the Cebu City Transportation Office to help the police maintain public safety.

Garcia said he activated a multi-agency committee that will serve as an ‘action force’ whose members would ensure orderly observance of the religious tradition of remembering departed loved ones.

Various departments of the city governm
ent are on board in the action force, he added.

Cebu City police chief Antonietto Can~ete urged the public to maintain vigilance by monitoring the social media pages of government agencies to keep them updated on advisories regarding the celebration
