Langat: Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) today signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) to jointly plan and implement alternative water supply solutions for Central Spectrum's development in Pulau Indah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the MoC was signed by Central Spectrum chief executive officer (CEO) Mohd Zapi Abdullah and Air Selangor CEO Adam Saffian Ghazali at the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant. The event was witnessed by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Datuk Izham Hashim.
Under the agreement, both parties will establish a Joint Steering Committee to oversee strategic planning and feasibility studies for water reclamation plants, seawater desalination facilities, in-situ desalination systems, or other alternative water supply solutions. Amirudin stated that the potential use of seawater desalination would be evaluated based on cost and efficiency.
Amirudin noted that if the desalination initiative proves viable, it could serve as a model for development along Selangor's extensive coastline and offer an alternative water source for certain sectors, such as chalets and hotels. Additionally, there is an interest in catering to services including port-related activities that require a reliable water supply.
Central Spectrum will provide full financial backing for the project, covering feasibility studies, design, and construction of the plant, while Air Selangor will contribute technical expertise and secure necessary regulatory approvals. The collaboration aims to develop alternative water sources and support the long-term development of Pulau Indah, ensuring reliable water services for industries in the area.
Mohd Zapi described the partnership as a significant milestone in securing sustainable water resources for future developments in Pulau Indah. He expressed confidence in establishing a robust water supply system to meet future demands with Air Selangor's technical expertise and Central Spectrum's financial commitment.
At the event, Air Selangor also signed a separate MoC with Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) and the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDC) to further strengthen the development of Selangor's water industry ecosystem. Amirudin highlighted that this strategic partnership brings together key institutions in the state to lay a strong foundation for industrial training programmes, joint research, technical education, project-based learning, and long-term industry partnerships.
