Alor setar: National junior men's doubles lead coach Pang Cheh Chang has been discharged from Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar this morning after nearly fainting while coaching at the National Under-19 Championships yesterday. Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) deputy president I Datuk V. Subramaniam, however, said he still doesn't know the exact cause of Cheh Chang's collapse during the tournament at the Kedah Badminton Association Hall.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Subramaniam mentioned, "I was told that he has been discharged and gone for breakfast. I will call him, and I want to see what the doctor has finally confirmed," he told reporters after the pre-tournament media session for the 2026 Malaysia Super 100 badminton tournament here today.

He stated that a decision on the next course of action regarding Cheh Chang, including whether he should return to coaching duties during the tournament, which only ends on Saturday (Sept 19), would be made after taking into account the doctor's advice, with his health and recovery a priority. Subramaniam said BAM will also arrange a full medical check-up for Cheh Chang once he returns to Kuala Lumpur.

It was reported that Cheh Chang nearly fainted during the national junior meet while coaching Wong Tze Han-Teoh Chong Yee in their men's doubles match against Jason Afandy Wong-Lum Chee Kian yesterday. The 52-year-old coach was then taken to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for further checks.

Meanwhile, Subramaniam said about 354 shuttlers from 17 countries are set to compete in the Malaysia Super 100 at the Educity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri, Johor from Oct 13-18. He also hopes that Malaysia can win two titles at the tournament, which offers a total prize money of USD120,000 (RM491,796).
