Kuala lumpur: Malnutrition among children under five in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur is concerning, stated Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad. He highlighted that data from the National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS) revealed 23.4 percent of children in Kuala Lumpur were stunted, 12.4 percent were underweight, 8.1 percent were affected by wasting, and 7.5 percent were overweight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dzulkefly emphasized that these statistics represent real children and families in need of support. He made these remarks while launching the Urban Community Feeding Programme (PCF Bandar) with Seputeh MP Teresa Kok Suh Sim at the Muhibbah Community Complex.

Dzulkefly pointed out the double burden of malnutrition in the country, where undernutrition and overnutrition coexist. The Health Ministry is addressing this by proactively engaging with communities to identify at-risk children who do not frequently visit health facilities.

The PCF Bandar model, initiated as a pilot in 2013, offers structured support to affected children aged one to six, including monthly growth monitoring, nutritious food baskets, and fresh fruits and vegetables every two weeks. In Seputeh, the programme is funded through a partnership with Teresa Kok, following similar initiatives in the Lembah Pantai and Wangsa Maju constituencies.
