China Open: Malaysia Secures Semis Spot in Men’s Doubles

Kuala lumpur: Malaysia has guaranteed a place in the men's doubles semi-finals of the 2025 China Open Badminton Championships, as the duo Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun advanced to the quarter-finals today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the world number seven pair, Wei Chong and Kai Wun, achieved a hard-fought victory over their compatriots Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub and Tan Wee Kiong. The match concluded with scores of 17-21, 21-17, 21-19, lasting 56 minutes at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou.

The upcoming quarter-final promises an all-Malaysian clash as Wei Chong and Kai Wun are set to face the national number one pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. Chia and Soh progressed after defeating the French siblings Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov with scores of 21-17, 21-18.

In the women's doubles category, Goh Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing moved into the quarter-finals following a remarkable victory over Japan's world number eight pair, Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi. The Malaysian team won with scores of 26-21, 7-21, 21-18. They will now face the home favorites, Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, in the quarter-finals tomorrow.
