Kuala lumpur: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Kuala Lumpur to participate in high-level discussions as part of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Wang, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, was welcomed at the Bunga Raya Complex of Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 11pm. His visit is set to include a series of ministerial meetings from July 10 to 11, involving the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which includes Japan and the Republic of Korea. In addition, Wang will attend the East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers' Meeting.
Malaysia is hosting the 58th AMM under its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme, 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'. The event will feature 24 foreign ministers-level meetings, including bilateral discussions with ASEAN's external dialogue partners such as Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Moreover, four trilateral meetings involving Malaysia, the ASEAN Secretariat, and sectoral dialogue partners - Brazil, Norway, Switzerland, and Turkiye - are also on the agenda.
This year marks the fifth time Malaysia has chaired ASEAN, having previously held the position in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
