Johor bahru: The Johor Immigration Department detained four Chinese nationals for using fake passports and overstaying in the country. Its director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the suspects, aged 43 to 57, were detained at a luxury apartment in Bayu Puteri yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, one of the individuals used a Mexican international passport to enter and remain in the country, while the others utilized passports from their country of origin. A search of their shared residence also uncovered 13 international passports from various countries, including Vietnam and Hong Kong.

The detained individuals are suspected of working at a recreation center currently under construction within a golf club area in Johor Bahru. They have been remanded for 14 days starting yesterday to assist in investigations under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without a valid pass and Section 56(1)(l) of the same Act for possessing forged travel documents. Investigations are also being carried out under the Passports Act 1966.

Mohd Rusdi emphasized that the department will continue operations to combat illegal immigrants and document forgery syndicates.
