CIDB To Expand BIM Training Access With Seven New Satellite Labs

Kuala lumpur: The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) is set to enhance the accessibility of Building Information Modelling (BIM) training by establishing seven new satellite laboratories across the nation next year, aiming to provide more comprehensive training facilities for local contractors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan revealed that currently, such BIM facilities are limited to Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Sabah, and Sarawak. The initiative, led by CIDB rather than the Works Ministry, will see the new labs equipped with computers and BIM software, catering to the needs of industry players, including local contractors. The decision to establish these labs will consider levy collection and project demands in each state.

During a press conference at the 11th CIDB CIOB Youth Arena Convention Malaysia 2025, Ahmad also addressed a recent landslide incident in Penang. He stated that the ministry has directed the district engineer, the State Public Works Department (JKR), and JKR's Slope Engineering Branch (CKC) in Kuala Lumpur to take immediate action. This involves ongoing clean-up efforts at the Balik Pulau site, although the road remains closed due to the risk of further soil movement.

Ahmad emphasized that continuous monitoring and preventive measures are being implemented on other high-risk slopes, with approximately 3,000 such sites identified nationwide.
