Bukit merah: The water level at the Bukit Merah Dam rose from 6.03 metres (m) to 6.096m as of this morning after a cloud-seeding operation produced rain in several areas yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perak Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) stated in a release that the dam's storage capacity increased from 6.65 million cubic metres (12.2 per cent) to 7.25 million cubic metres (13.31 per cent). However, it was noted that the dam's current status remains at the Water Supply Stop Level as per the existing standard operating procedure (SOP).
The statement highlighted that the increased storage will help extend the water supply period for domestic use. Nevertheless, water supply for irrigation purposes to the Kerian Irrigation Plan cannot be resumed at this time.
The cloud seeding operation was conducted yesterday by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) in collaboration with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The operation targeted several areas affected by the hot weather, including the Bukit Merah Dam, which has been experiencing critical water levels since June.
