San francisco: Cloudflare Inc, a connectivity cloud company, has announced the acquisition of VoidZero, the open source-first company behind the next-generation JavaScript tooling ecosystem Vite. Cloudflare in a statement said the acquisition will unify VoidZero's high-performance tooling, including the Vite build tool, Vitest test runner, Rust-based Rolldown bundler, and Oxc toolchain, into the Cloudflare ecosystem.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, by integrating Cloudflare's global edge network and Workers developer platform with the modern web toolchain, the company aims to create a streamlined deployment stack from local code to global production. Cloudflare co-founder and chief executive officer, Matthew Prince, said the acquisition will accelerate the path from local code to global deployment for developers and AI agents working alongside them.
VoidZero's tooling, anchored by Vite, has become widely adopted across the web ecosystem, recording more than 130 million weekly downloads. The Cloudflare Vite plugin has reached 13.9 million weekly downloads, representing more than 10 percent of Vite's total weekly usage.
VoidZero's team, led by Vue.js and Vite creator Evan You, will join Cloudflare's Emerging Technology and Incubation (ETI) organisation. The team will continue advancing VoidZero's open source roadmap while integrating with the Cloudflare Workers platform. Cloudflare said the acquisition will support a project-centric development model focused on three areas, namely unifying the developer pipeline, enabling intent-based infrastructure, and maintaining open-source steward neutrality.
