Commercial Vehicle Driver Found Positive For Drugs In Perlis RTD Operation

Perlis: The Perlis Road Transport Department (RTD) has seized the Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and Vocational Licence (GDL) belonging to a commercial vehicle driver who tested positive for drugs in an Integrated Drug Operation on commercial vehicles.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis RTD director Noraini Mohd Nawi stated that since the operation began on July 1 until yesterday, a total of 71 commercial vehicle drivers underwent urine screening by the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK). The results revealed that one driver and three attendants tested positive for drugs.

Noraini indicated that the Perlis RTD seized the CDL and GDL of the driver to facilitate further legal action. She emphasized that the operation aims to enhance compliance with traffic regulations, improve road safety, and reduce the risk of accidents involving commercial vehicles, particularly those caused by drivers under the influence of drugs.

The integrated operation was conducted in collaboration with AADK, police, and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC). Noraini highlighted the importance of continued cooperation with relevant agencies to ensure effective and continuous enforcement, ultimately improving road safety.

She asserted that the RTD would not compromise with any parties violating the law, as road user safety remains a priority. Additionally, Noraini urged transport companies and commercial vehicle owners to ensure their drivers are free from drug abuse, adhere to road regulations, and prioritize safety in daily operations.
