Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Communications is actively working on amending the Postal Services Act 2012 to foster a more sustainable and competitive postal services ecosystem while ensuring the welfare of its workers. Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil shared that the ministry has received an initial draft report from a consultant who engaged with industry players and delivery services to conduct a comprehensive study.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a meeting with relevant stakeholders was conducted approximately two weeks ago. The ministry is currently in the process of gathering more information to perform an in-depth analysis before proceeding with drafting the amendments to the act.
Minister Fahmi highlighted that the Postal Services Act was originally enacted in 2012, a time when the number of approved delivery licensees was significantly lower than today. The landscape has since changed, particularly with the rise of e-commerce platforms that have impacted Pos Malaysia's ecosystem.
Fahmi emphasized that several amendments are necessary to ensure the sustainability of the delivery industry ecosystem. These changes aim to better manage various legal challenges currently faced by the industry. He projected that the amendments would be presented to Parliament by the middle of next year.
