Community Service Order for Littering Set to Launch This Year, Confirms Minister Nga

Nga Kor Ming: The proposed community service order of up to 12 hours for minor littering offences is expected to come into force this year, said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming. He noted that several engagement and briefing sessions had been conducted with relevant stakeholders to ensure the implementation of the community service order.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the law will be enforced this year as part of preparations for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, which anticipates 35 million visitors. The initiative aims to leave a positive impression on tourists. Nga shared this information with reporters during the inauguration of the MADANI Woodlands II Recreational Park in Bandar Baru Tambun.

The Housing and Local Government Ministry had previously announced on February 19 its plans to implement the community service order by amending the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133). This measure is intended to educate the public about cleanliness and discourage the indiscriminate disposal of small waste in public areas.

Nga is expected to present the proposed amendments to these Acts in the Dewan Rakyat on March 6. In related news, the minister announced a RM10 million allocation for Perak this year to develop at least 20 MADANI Recreational Parks across the state. The policy aims to establish 100 parks annually, with a long-term goal of 1,000 parks over a decade. Last year, the target was surpassed, with 109 parks established under local authorities and the National Landscape Department.

Regarding the MADANI Woodlands II Recreational Park, Nga highlighted that private developer Total Investment Sdn Bhd contributed RM500,000 towards its construction.
