Putra Heights: Several corporate companies have come forward today to offer assistance to those affected by the recent gas pipeline fire and explosion in Putra Heights. Transport Minister Anthony Loke acknowledged the support from various parties, emphasizing the collaboration between the private sector and the government in helping citizens during disasters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke expressed his appreciation for the contributions made by the corporate companies, highlighting the unity among Malaysians in times of crisis. The donation handover ceremony, held at the Putra Heights LRT station, saw the involvement of Berjaya Cares Foundation and Matrix Concepts Holdings Berhad. Tan Sri Vincent Tan, founder of Berjaya Corporation Bhd, provided aid to 300 families, while Chai Keng Wai, CEO of Matrix Concepts Holdings Berhad, assisted an additional 100 families, with cash assistance totaling RM3,000 per family.
Moreover, Carsome contributed 50 Perodua Bezza cars for the victims' use, free for one month. The donation was presented by Aaron Kee, Carsome's Group Chief Business Officer. Minister Loke also announced the provision of free motorcycles for owners whose vehicles were destroyed, with the handover scheduled for Monday.
Loke addressed criticisms of the DAP's initiative to establish a fund for the victims, deeming such reactions inappropriate. He emphasized the importance of both government and private sector involvement in aiding those in need and encouraged public contributions, regardless of the amount.
The special fund, active from April 2 to April 9, had raised RM107,698 by 4 pm yesterday. The gas pipeline fire, which occurred at 8:10 am on Tuesday, caused extensive damage, with flames reaching over 30 meters and temperatures soaring to 1,000 degrees Celsius. The blaze was extinguished after nearly eight hours, leaving 87 houses uninhabitable and 148 others damaged but repairable.
