Padang besar: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized suspected counterfeit jerseys and trousers worth an estimated RM169,000 in a raid in Padang Besar on Tuesday (June 23).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis KPDN director Rohaida Hassan stated that the seizure followed a raid on five premises. The operation involved 17 enforcement officers and representatives from the trademark owner, carried out under the Trademarks Act 2019.

"This operation resulted from a two-week intelligence-gathering effort on traders found selling these items to consumers. All five raided premises were found selling apparel using suspected counterfeit trademarks," she said in a statement today.

Rohaida explained that an initial inspection and verification by the trademark owner provided reasonable grounds to believe an offence had been committed under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019. This section addresses being in possession, custody, or control of goods for commercial purposes that feature counterfeit trademarks.

Consequently, five case actions have been initiated under the Trademarks Act 2019 and are being investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of that provision. Rohaida warned all parties against violating intellectual property laws and urged legitimate trademark owners to continue cooperating to provide information to completely stamp out counterfeiting.
