Crackdown On Overloaded Heavy Vehicles Is Year-round, Not Seasonal – Loke

Kuala lumpur: Law enforcement against heavy vehicles, including operations under Op Perang Lebih Muatan, will be carried out year-round and not on a seasonal basis, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. He stressed that industry players must fully comply with the law or face firm action.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, last year, large-scale operations against overloading were launched, significantly impacting by demonstrating the government's seriousness in addressing this issue. However, some parties assumed enforcement ended last December. Loke clarified that enforcement activities are ongoing at all times and remain a core responsibility of the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Loke stated that the Op Perang Lebih Muatan, conducted from October 14 to December 31 last year, inspected 169,965 heavy vehicles, of which 3,563 were found overloaded. As a result, 6,843 notices were issued to drivers and vehicle owners, along with 4,983 summonses under the Road Transport Act 1987.

Loke also warned industry players against prioritising profits by carrying loads beyond permitted limits, emphasizing that violations will result in firm action. He urged against assuming that enforcement has been halted or relaxed.

Beyond heavy vehicles, Loke mentioned that JPJ enforcement this year will also place strong emphasis on overall road safety, including tackling drunk driving, illegal street racing, and improving motorcycle rider safety. Continuous enforcement aims to ensure safer roads for the public and demonstrate the government's commitment to transport law enforcement.
