Kuala lumpur: Cybercrime issues, the cost of living, and modifications to the Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) electricity bill structure are among the topics highlighted in Parliament today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar) plans to inquire with the Home Minister about the number of cybercrime cases reported throughout 2024, as well as the ministry's initiatives to enhance digital security for the public during the question-and-answer session.
Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut) is set to question the Finance Minister regarding the government's strategy to alleviate the cost of living burden, given the country's total debt now reaching RM1.5 trillion. This inquiry comes in light of the World Bank's projection that Malaysia's GDP growth will decline to 3.9% in 2025, coupled with the country's difficulty facing reciprocal tariffs from the United States.
Attention is also expected to be drawn to the question from Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan (PN-Kota Bharu), who will seek clarification from the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation on changes to the TNB electricity bill structure, which has moved away from using tiered rates for domestic consumers. He aims to understand whether the new mechanism ensures cost fairness, energy efficiency, and sustained subsidies for the B40 and M40 groups.
Additionally, Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Stampin) intends to question the Minister of Communications on the accountability of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Xiaohongshu in publishing advertisements related to scams and fraudulent investment schemes. He seeks to determine if these platforms hold responsibility for scams and fraud affecting victims.
Following the question-and-answer session, the Parliament will proceed with the first reading of the Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2025 and Fisheries (Amendment) Bill 2025. The Second Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to last for 24 days, with a key focus on the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan on July 31.
