DAP CEC Election Results A Sign Of Rejuvenation – Analyst

Kuala Lumpur: The results of the DAP central executive committee (CEC) election yesterday is a sign of the party's rejuvenation, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) senior political science lecturer Dr Jamaie Hamil said. He pointed out that it indicated that party delegates have placed their trust in the next generation of leaders to lead the party.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Jamaie expressed hope that other parties would follow DAP's example by giving opportunities to younger leaders. He questioned how long older leaders would hold onto their posts, emphasizing that the DAP election results demonstrate that young leaders are being given their chance. Dr Jamaie noted that it was unsurprising that Damansara MP Gobind Singh Deo garnered the highest votes and was subsequently elected National Chairman, replacing Lim Guan Eng. He described Lim's election as DAP advisor as a very relevant move, considering Lim's extensive experience and vision for the party's future.

Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Social Sciences political sociology lecturer Prof Datuk Dr Sivamurugan Pandian commented on the strategic nature of the delegates' voting. He noted that while the election results might seem extraordinary, DAP has likely been planning these changes as they look ahead to the 16th general election in two years. Prof Sivamurugan suggested that Gobind's election as National Chairman might be a strategic move to maintain party unity.
