Kuala Lumpur: The fee for each Ramadan Bazaar stall under the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has been set at a minimum of RM500, as announced by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Dr. Zaliha Mustafa. This fee structure includes a RM200 deposit, refundable to traders who adhere to the stipulated licensing conditions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr. Zaliha highlighted that traders are effectively required to pay only RM300 per lot at the Ramadan Bazaar once the deposit is considered. She emphasized that this fee is reasonable and affordable, particularly for small-scale traders, and noted that it is lower than fees charged in some areas managed by private entities in other states.
Dr. Zaliha made these remarks while concluding the debate on the motion of thanks on the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat. In related discussions, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Dr. Zulkifli Hasan, reported that only five per cent of Malaysian Halal Management Certificate (SPHM) holders were non-compliant with Malaysia's halal certification standards.
He disclosed that from January to December 2024, 4,129 companies or premises with the SPHM certificate were monitored nationwide, revealing that 95 per cent adhered to the standards. Additionally, Dr. Zulkifli mentioned that in 2024, the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and State Islamic Religious Councils addressed 337 public complaints regarding violations under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011, including the misuse of the halal logo.
The Dewan Rakyat subsequently passed the motion of thanks on the royal address, tabled by Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar), with a majority vote in favor. The House is scheduled to reconvene tomorrow.
