DCPO collects P2.3-M fines from motorcycle violators in weeklong op

DAVAO: The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) collected some PHP2.3 million in fines for various motorcycle violations during a series of operations from May 12 to 18.

In a statement Tuesday, DCPO chief Col. Richard Bad-ang said the bulk of the fines came from operations against “bora-bora” (modified muffler) motorcycles and other nuisance scramblers.

“We have achieved remarkable success in our relentless operations against ‘bora-bora’ motorcycles,” he said.

During the week, at least 621 operations related to the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City also resulted in the issuance of 2,520 citation tickets and collection of PHP1.1 million in fines.

Under the speed limit ordinance, the DCPO-Traffic Enforcement Unit issued 527 citation tickets, resulting in fines of PHP527,000.

“DCPO’s operational units issued 22 citation tickets for bora-bora, resulting in fines of PHP7,500 and PHP10,000 for temporary operator’s permit (TOP) issuances,” Bad-ang said.

At least 364 operations related to Republ
ic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, also led to the issuance of 251 TOPs and the collection of fines of PHP535,616.

Moreover, Bad-ang said the “No Helmet, No Travel Policy” operation resulted in the issuance of 145 citation tickets worth PHP72,500, while the “No Plate, No Travel” operation with 24 citation tickets for fines amounting to PHP10,650.

“This initiative ensures that all traffic violators receive TOP or citation tickets, making them aware of their violations,” he said.
